This beautiful scene sits on the Old Mission Peninsula just outside of Traverse City, Michigan. The cherry orchards that covered the peninsula when I started visiting 35 years ago are slowly giving way to vineyards. I love seeing the land kept in cultivation of food, and feel incredibly lucky to have this view part of my world each time I visit briefly for the summer. My father-in-law owns a small orchard, and cousins own a vineyard, so I feel as if we are tied into this land in a wonderful way, rather than only as visitors.
