Our plein air group was allowed to paint this week on a private estate that was stunningly beautiful. Part of the fun of the weekly sessions has been discovering places I wouldn't otherwise know of or have access to. I walked into this koi pond (one of five on the property), and set my things down right away. Then I took a walk around the property to see if there was somewhere else I'd like to paint. And there were many, but I felt drawn back to this little pond and the coolness of the shade on a hot day. I love water, and fountains and ponds, so this hit all of those marks. I also could not get over how big the koi were. Massive! They had thin strings crisscrossed over the water to deter preditors (osprey and hawks abound around here). I left them out of the painting.
