This summer I spent more time than usual at the summer place in Michigan. One of my goals was to do some plein air paintings of the area, of which I did a few. I drove passed several farm stands, this admiring the bright colors and beautiful flowers and produce. And so one day I set up in this stand's parking area, after getting permission, and began to paint Edmonston's Farm Stand. Soon, a truck came down the hill and I struck up a conversation with the owner of the property, who could not have been kinder. He suggested I drive up to the top of the ridge, where his house sat, for the view. Later, after packing up my gear, I did just that, and took in the amazing vista of both sides of the peninsula. Getting out into the open to paint offers unique challenges (bugs, wind, rain, sun), but also unique opportunities for connection. I think I'll do more.
