What is it about barns that evoke a deep sense of well being? I have a few childhood memories of being in barns, and they were filled with mystery and expectation. The big space, filled with animal smells and movement, was a far cry from my own home and yard. The back roads of Maine are filled with glimpses of barns and other old buildings. Small family farms are on the rise in Maine, slowing a trend toward corporate agribusiness. I love knowing the farmers who grow the food we eat, which is why we feel lucky to belong to a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) group that provides us with fresh produce all growing season here in Maine. It's a small way to help protect small businesses who work in a practical way to make our lives better. What is it about barns that evoke a deep sense of well being?
