I was painting on site at The Lost Kitchen in Freedom, Maine, last month, and saw this bed of deep, purple tulips. They were such a dramatic and beautiful foreground for the trees and millpond behind them. Tulips are one of my favorite flowers, both for their cheerful shape and colors, and the fact that they bloom when few others are up from the ground.
