The gritty world of fishing is beautiful, with its vibrant colors and strong shapes. This scene on Vinalhaven Island is one I've seen others paint. When I lived in Maine I didn't do many lobster boats or wharves, probably because they were so common, and so often painted. But now I live elsewhere, and I'm missing this kind of beautiful mess. So, on a recent visit to the island with my daughter, I did some plein air work, and I took a lot of photos. I'm enjoying the chance to revisit from within my studio.
