Although most of her photos show her smiling beautifully, I chose to paint Tawakkol Karman with a more serious look. Degree in Political Science, mother of 3, journalist, author, human rights activist, leader of weekly protests. All working towards the nonviolent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work in Yemen for which she won the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 32. She was the first Arab woman to become a Nobel Laureate. Her work continues and I enjoyed learning about her. The many internet photos show her wearing colorful hijabs.
