(Private Garden)It’s not always the most obvious choice that makes a perfect subject for a painting. Around the corner from an avenue of plane trees and a reflection pond there’s a narrow lane and a tiny overgrown garden with a low but heavy chain barring entry to pedestrians, dogs and cars. But my gaze found it charming and the play of sun and shadows most alluring, proving once again that ‘everything in Provence is paintable.
