Morning light silhouettes a stony ridgeline and bathes the valley in cool shadow on a crisp Autumn day at Castle Rock, near Mt. Diablo in Northern California. To get this viewpoint Judith Kunzle and I set up our easels on a hillside trail shared by hikers, bikers and equestrians. One of the horses was spooked by my umbrella, which looked like a "giant, scary, flying albatross" (according to the horse's rider.) Now my new nickname for my umbrella is Albatross!
