Rainy days often make for an incredible sunrise or sunset. It’s been grey and stormy outside my window most of the day but the sunrise during my commute was awesome! Vivid pinks, reds, and purples accented by slivers of orange and yellow danced through a sky full of clouds. When I got to my easel I took a large palette knife and quickly laid in the colors I remembered in the sky over a copse of trees I passed on my morning drive. With a flat bristle brush I went back into all those big shapes of luscious color to chisel out some definition in the clouds. Not too much though. I wanted to keep the quick, rolling movement of the clouds before the rain came. “Sunrise Before the Rain” is an 8” x 8” oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas.
