I joined the London Plein Air Group last weekend, which is a London based open air painting group tha meets monthly and is open to all (see Instagram). They invited artists to turn up to the Royal Courts of Justice to paint for the day. A total of 65 artists turned up! This was my first time with the group and they were very welcoming. I set up my pochade box in front of St Clement Danes church to try and capture this view. I had a fantastic 4 hour painting session albeit a quite cold one. The church behind me is the one referenced in the children's song, 'Oranges and Lemons'. The song rings out on the church bells every hour. There were a lot of tourists and other passing pedestrians who wanted to stop and chat. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and will be joining the group again in the next few months. This painting was completed in my home studio using my plein air painting, my reference photo and everything I learned on the day. I hope to be able to take these lessons into my next plein air session.
