This is my entry to the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Paint Live competition which involved the completion of a plein air painting with 5 hours of any scene within half a mile of the Mall Galleries. On a very grey day with a flat grey sky and limited light, I chose this close up view of the lions of trafalgar square, designed by Edwin Landseer, towards the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben in the distance. It was a fantastic fun day consisting of; non stop painting for five hours, broken occasionally with a lovely chat with tourists and Londoners, who are always so supportive and nice; a look around the ROI exhibition at the galleries, a chat with artist friends and watching Ruth Fitton's live demonstration of portrait painting.
