This is the latest in a series of floral studies I'm working on in which the flowers are presented as a field of bright saturated colour and in which the composition attempts to flow the image over the edges of the panel. These studies test me to the limit and I've had to learn a lot in relation to presenting sunlight on saturated colour via the use of intense chroma, complementary colours adjacent to each other and stark value shifts from brush stroke to brush stroke. I find it incredibly challenging to manage value, chroma and the overall light effect with such a level of detail and still keeping the brush strokes relatively loose. That's why I love doing them so much.
