Painting roses is infinitely fascinating and challenging. They simultaneously have the highest chroma colours and the subtlest transparent colours. Their inherent colours glow but they also reflect all the colours around them. They can catch the light with intensity and often sit within deepest shadow. Their forms are very complex and difficult to simplify. They are such a testing subject but I love the challenge. Painting roses is infinitely fascinating and challenging.
