The painting “Sukhasana” began with a whirlwind of color, pattern, stencil, markings. When I sketched out the figure, the area of her clothing (which later became a bathing suit) picked up the interesting pattern below and I knew I wanted to maintain that. The space that she is in suggests a feeling of relaxation but alertness, a lightness. She sits in a yoga pose, a pose that comes easily…she basks in the energy around her and within herself. "There was just no telling which breath would be my last. And so I breathed. And breathed again. And each breath was better than the one before because it was a gift, an unexpected bonus."
