I had an idea to create a series of paintings featuring various small family-owned artisan shops that are sadly getting squeezed out of the market by bigger businesses and cheaper goods. I find these little shops fascinating and full of character. Recently, I got a chance to visit a cobbler shop, and the owner was kind enough to show me around, explain the use of his special tools and equipment (some of his machines were over a 100 years old!). I really liked the fact that every object I saw there had a history, a unique personality and was not easily replaceable.
