Even though this painting was done several months ago, it remains one of my most favorite. I started with a black textured background and painted my way from darks to lights. I felt that this method opened up a much broader tonal spectrum for me. This piece marks my transition from figurative work to still lifes. I was in my studio and I wanted to paint something… anything! The boots happened to be there, and they turned out to be a perfect choice. The set up was really simple, and the painting process was most enjoyable. Even though this painting was done several months ago, it remains one of my most favorite.
