The Leftover’s I walked into O’Berer’s Florist with a specific aim in mind. I wanted blue flowers. “You’re welcome to go into the cooler and pick the flowers you like.” I walked in, picked some stems I liked and walked farther into the back of the cooler. There, sitting and still happy even though their blooms were fading, was a bucket of sunflowers. They weren’t the prettiest flowers, petals falling and drooped over the bucket edge, the shapes forming shadows on the cement floor. The Florescent light lit this messy bunch from above. I bought the blue flowers, but ended up painting the leftover sunflowers. Funny when you are searching for the thing you think you need, the Universe sends you a gift of what you actually need. 16”x20” Oil, available at the Row House Gallery in Milford, Ohio.
