Portrait Deliberate Practice Series 51/250. "THE CONNECTION", 8" x 8", oil on MDF
There's always that moment when a connection is made. You see the person and your heart skips a beat, or your gut nods its head, or your intuition resonates with a resounding confirmation....you all know what I mean. That's the kind of feeling you get and it's not an everyday affair. Once in while we genuinely connect and it lasts forever! The world needs more of these connections to be a better place. This piece was done with the Zorn Palette + light red, alizarin crimson and raw Sienna. It's still a limited palette and very tonal. In this piece I used the outside-in technique in straight Alla- Prima and I tried to see the big picture while painting this, so that all the shapes would be perfectly connected. The emphasis was on the purity of the brushstrokes with very little blending. I really wanted the paint to do most of the work. This is a discovery piece and hopefully I'll do more of these where I'm trying to explore all the parts as they connect together as one unit.
