Deliberate Portrait Practice Series 90/250 "BILLIE", 6" x 8", oil on board
I love faces with character, I love faces that tell a story. A striking mood, with all the tension in the facial muscles, the revelations in the corners of the mouth or just the simple expressions that make us down to earth humans. That's exactly what I saw in this portrait of Billie Whitelaw, a great British actor of the yesteryears. This was painted with no drawing at all, just starting from one spot (the left eye) I kept on navigating around the head, completing each phase before moving on to another phase. This was a classic inside-out technique.
