Portrait Deliberate Practice Series 75/250. "REALITY" , 6" x 8", oil on board.
I met this guy on the trains in the morning, we started talking and I just quickly told him the whole truth and nothing but the truth, "I'm an artist and I'll love to paint you". He agreed and the rest is history. I worked freely like a sculptor with clay, moulding and pasting. It was quite tricky as the light was coming from two sources. I think the best portraits are those that the client leaves the whole interpretation to the painter with no demands, it frees up the mind and the juices begin to flow unhindered. I worked with the inside-out technique in full alla prima, using the full oil colour (straight from the tube) without thinning it.
