Media: Oil On cradled panel
Size: 6x8 in
TWO YEARS ago today I set out to prove that art is a skill that can be improved upon through daily practice. I started in a small mixed media sketchbook with some oil paint and made a commitment to paint daily. I honestly didn’t think I would make it through the first week, but here I am today making my 730th painting. In two years I have learned a few things along the way. First is that improvement is not linear. There are ups and downs, leaps and setbacks. I never would know that if I had quit. It’s really difficult to see improvement day to day but I promise you do see it over time. I also learned that my journey is not going to look like anyone else’s journey. I love the community of artists I have met here on Instagram, and some now in real life! It’s easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing, then wonder if I am good enough or yearn to paint exactly like another artist. I have stepped back from doing that and realized that I am the ONLY me that can do what I do and that’s enough. Todays daily painting is one I have done before in June of 2021 in gouache. At the time I had a vision in my mind of what I wanted this painting to be and it didn’t turn out how I wanted, but I shared it anyways. Today I decided to revisit it and I am so happy with the improvements I have made. TWO YEARS ago today I set out to prove that art is a skill that can be improved upon through daily practice.
