This mountain is Mount McDowel but is more commonly referred to as "Red Mountain" or "Fire Rock" due to its composition of sandstone conglomerate which gives it its distinctive red color that glows during sunrise and sunset. Red Mountain is a prominent landmark here in the Valley of the Sun. It has become a Mesa icon. The mountain itself is considered to be sacred to the indians. The painting is very large and is painted on a 1.5 inch deep canvas. It is painted on all sides. No frame is necessary.
