One of only three left in this unique series of six miniature interiors exploring the range of colors created with the primary palette - using only three colors plus white. The inspiration for the series came from an old house in a harbor village in Maine. I started to paint the brass bed against the light coming through the window and became enthralled with the mystery created with the changing palette using basically the same composition. Each one in the series I named after a Latin rhythm ballroom dance - thus The Beguine, a slower dance than the Tango, but with equally sensual appeal. The violet tones seemed to evoke the emotion of the music I sensed I was hearing while painting this.
