Near Jerome, Arizona and about 28 miles from Sedona is an amazing place called the Gold King Mine. There is no more mining happening there, but rather a reverse -- instead of metals being removed from the earth, metals -- mostly iron oxide -- are returning to the earth, very slowly as the hundreds of old vehicles and pieces of mining and agricultural equipment break down in the hot sun and wind-blown red sand and dust. We wandered for hours, photographing the wonderful relics from a past age of transportation and industry. If you are in the area, don't miss it!
