This painting was started en plein air right next to the Colorado River edge looking up at those massive cliffs. They come right down to the edge of the water and huge boulders are mostly submerged there. The trees on the other side of the river and going up the mountain side are actually full sized Palo Verde trees! This area is on the Hualapai Indian Reservation here in Arizona and is a trek down 20 miles of dirt road to get to the river. You will travel through amazing scenery to get there. Including giant Ocotillo cactus and soaring cliffs. This area isn’t the most famous side of the Grand Canyon but has its own rugged beauty. If you want to ride the Colorado River rapids. This is where you start. This painting was finished back in my studio and includes the frame. Enjoy!
