Surrounded by Beauty

Lucky enough to live in Maine for 18 years, I saw its stunning beauty every day. Life does bring change, however, and so I now find myself moving to another lovely place - Long Island, New York. While there are no mountains, there are beaches, parks, seaside towns, and much more. I love to paint the world in which I live, doing the things I enjoy. That can include hiking, camping, sailing, kayaking, swimming, or just exploring this amazing country. Painting helps me to stop and be fully present in the moment, focusing on the light, shapes and color that catch my attention. I then try to reflect the scene, and my emotional response to it, back to the viewer. If someone feels an emotional response to my work, I've done my job right. Mostly, I paint because it brings me joy. While I often sketch on site, and sometimes paint outside, much of my work has been done in the studio. With this move I hope to do more work plein air.
