Art has always been a big part of my life. I started out drawing and working in ceramic sculpture in my younger years but progressed into painting when our youngest daughter was 6 months old and that was 18 years ago. I am mostly self taught and continue to expand my knowledge and artistic abilities daily. In the last few years I started painting "small and often", usually producing up to 4 finished paintings a week.
Much of my painting inspiration comes from being surrounded by the best things in this world; dogs and water. I think my love of the ocean came from growing up on Oahu. My love for dogs came from my mom.
I paint mostly in acrylics, but will ocassionaly play around with other media. In my first 4 years of painting I enjoyed using oils. I switched to acrylics after selling our house and moving onto a sailboat. I found acrylics to be a bit more boat friendly. We lived aboard our boat (s/v Pearl) with our 2 daughters, and dogs for just under 7 years. In that time we spent each summer traveling north to the San Juan Islands and Canada. In 2011 we sailed South for a year to enjoy the warm waters of Mexico. We returned in 2012 and officially became land lubbers in 2013, purchasing a house in Olympia, Washington. Thankfully, we still have our beloved sailboat and find ourselves called to the water often. Many of my paintings are from our travels over the years.
