This is one of my favorite recent paintings. I captured the photo that served as reference at around lunch time on a sunny winter day here in Dachau. Yes, the sun stays at that low of an angle - even at midday - here in winter. I was attracted by the intense contrast of the light and shadow and wanted to emphasize that, which is why I chose to keep the rest of the painting rather simple. In addition, I used a cooler blue/green background to further accent the warmth of the sunlight and the reddish/orange fur of the dog. This is one of my favorite recent paintings.
