This began as a bright blue painting and bothered me incessantly. Feeling as though I had gone overdressed to a party and after several reworkings over a period of almost two years, the Millpond feels comfortable in its current colors. I had a lot of fun reworking this, scraping off some of the original paint, and enjoyed working with the palette knife mixing and appliying new colors thickly and thinly. I like what the vertical lines bring to the scene adding balance and solidity. You can see this in the trees and telephone poles as well as corners of the buildings. These patterns are repeated in the pond reflection. May "Millpond in Early Spring" bring you calmness with spring's promise.
