Growing up in Illinois I was surrounded by farmland. I remember staring out the car window as we drove by and being fascinated by the undulating fields. This painting grew from those memories. To create this painting I used oil paint and graphite. The process I use is a back and forth technique between the two mediums. I paint, draw lines to fragment the composition and then paint back over parts of the lines. I repeat this process until I am satisfied as to where the lines fall. It is a strangely satisfying and organic process that ends up being a very meditative way to paint. Growing up in Illinois I was surrounded by farmland.
