This artwork was for a new artists fundraiser.  The challenge was to tell about yourself through the art.  I choose to honor and document a hen, on our farm, showing my intrigue with chickens and other personal bits.  

This mixed media piece has the tiny bit of a hen and chicks quilt block, in black and white for her feathers and my interest in quilts and William Morris fabrics.  Being a mother, cherishing earth and rustic are a big part of who I am and this sweet mother is watching closely for danger as her chicks peak out of her fluff, as they are nestled in their coop of cement, wood and tiny bits of real straw.  And last I felt I needed to document her lovely egg color, speckled and dark.
